On the day of your session: I will have the thermostat up fairly highin the studio. I will also have a space heater on. Your baby is used to a warm , cozy environment, so we want to help baby feel as comfortable as possible.
You’ll want to keep her awake as much as possible that morning. It really helps the session flow much more smoothly when we have a sleepy baby. I recommend giving her a sponge bath about an hour or so before leaving . This will help her stay awake and have her nice and cozy for picture time. I recommend Vaseline or lotion on baby’s extra dry or flaky spots and put baby in a loose-fitting diaper and sleeper (please, no onesie underneath ) .
Please feed baby RIGHT before you leave so she can arrive with a full tummy and extra sleepy. Please arrive on time, as I often have other sessions scheduled after yours.
When you arrive, keep her in the baby carrier, and I will get her out. That way she can get right into posing.
If you’d like some pictures with baby, I recommend light colored or cream colored shirt or tank top (no writing) . You can wear comfortable pants/shorts as I will only be shooting from the waist up only.
Let me know if you plan to bring anything else that you’d like and be sure to fill in my newborn questionnaire prior to your session date.
Newborn sessions typically take 2-3 hours. Session length just depends on baby and how often she needs to eat or be soothed.
If you are including young siblings, we will start with sibling and family shots first for the first 15 minutes. After family and sibling portraits are taken, I do ask that an adult is available to leave with siblings. It is highly likely they will get bored and restless. This will help to keep the remainder of the session a relaxing and quiet environment for your new baby, and help you relax as well!
What to bring: Pacifiers- even if you aren’t using one yet, please bring one (Soothie/hospital brand preferred). A pacifier is extremely helpful, even if you do not use one. Baby wipes, diapers, burp rags. (I do always have extras on hand, but ask you to bring some if possible since we can go through a lot!) An extra adult to supervise siblings. Snacks and water for mom. Extra change of clothes for mom/dad/siblings/ and baby.
